AJP 2021

Welcome to the web site of the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Joining Processes. The 2nd International Conference on Advanced Joining Processes 2021 will take place in Sintra (Portugal) 21-22 October 2021. The conference venue is the 5 stars hotel Vila Galé Sintra which offers excellent facilities for high quality scientific interactions.

Sintra is a city and municipality in the Greater Lisbon region of Portugal, located on the Portuguese Riviera. Sintra is famed for its picturesqueness and for its numerous historic palaces and castles. The historic center of the Vila de Sintra is famous for its 19th century Romanticist architecture, historic estates & villas, gardens, and numerous royal palaces & castles, which resulted in the classification of the town and its historic passage as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This conference is held every two years. The conference is chaired by Lucas F. M. da Silva and co-chaired by Paulo Martins (University of Lisbon, Portugal), Mohamad El-Zein (John Deere, USA) and Uwe Reisgen (RWTH Aachen University). 4th In-situ workshop 2021

“In-situ observation as the key to material and process behaviour"

Many joining/welding and material phenomena can only be observed and interpreted in real time with the help of photons, electrons or neutrons. These in-situ studies are increasingly contributing to understanding processes and improving products. Materials are becoming increasingly complex and require precise real-time analysis. In addition to the focus on welding, this workshop will also deal for the first time with additive manufacturing. Especially in process monitoring, considerable progress has been made here in recent years.

In-situ scattering and diffraction measurements using synchrotron and neutron beam lines have become a viable tool to look at the non-equilibrium processing of advanced materials. In the recent years in-situ methods have undergone rapid development and are used effectively in research and application.

In the tradition of the in-situ workshops already held in 2009 (Berlin), 2012 (Osaka) and 2016 (Salt Lake City), the continuation of these events will now take place at the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Joining Processes (AJP) in Sintra (Portugal) from 21-22 October 2021. The workshop provides the platform for the international experts to discuss the subject from the theoretical and experimental standpoint, in order to provide a closer insight into the different synchrotron and neutron diffraction techniques as well as innovative microscopy techniques. It will allow these researchers to collaborate freely and also share ideas for a future research network for In-situ Scattering Studies of Advanced Materials Processing.

We invite researchers to present and discuss their findings and exchange ideas!

Within sessions, the following items will be addressed:
- Joining/advanced welding process observation
- Stress-/strain analysis (residual stresses)
- phase detection and quantification
- Observation of cracking phenomena
- Additive manufacturing
- In-situ welding experiments
- model development and simulation
- In-situ methods and techniques
- Analysis tools and programming

posters

The poster size must be maximum A0 (841 mm x 1189 mm) in portrait (see sample image). The text and illustrations should be readable from a distance of two meters. Tacks and technical equipment for the hanging of posters will be available. Please check the conference final program for the poster board number assigned to you. Your poster should be displayed as per the number in the program.
