This excellence in mobility project will be implemented between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2012 and will develop a graduate Concentration in Global Education and Developmental Studies (GEDS) across the university partners of the Transatlantic Consortium on Early Childhood Intervention to prepare leaders with a global perspective and skills related to educational policy, program development, evaluation and research.
Participants in GEDS will include 24 US and 24 EU students who will gain experiences at their home institution and during a 1-semester full-time experience at an institution abroad involving field placement, seminars, an independent study, and interactive experiences with a foreign language and culture.
The objectives of this project are:
(1) To develop an innovative, transatlantic model of training in higher education in the form of the GEDS concentration for students in education and related disciplines.
(2) To implement a transatlantic program of study for students through academic work at home and partner universities.
(3) To evaluate the efficacy and added value of the GEDS concentration as an instructional model for training on global issues in education and child development.
(4) To disseminate information on the GEDS concentration model of training, findings on its implementation in student mobility and its potential as a sustainable and flexible form of transatlantic study.
Faculty exchanges of 1 or more weeks duration will be cordinated with four annual work meetings at the universities of Jönköping, Vanderbilt, North Carolina and Ludwig Maximillian respectively.
Students and faculty will present findings on the implementation of GEDS at conferences and will prepare articles for publication in scientific journals.
In addition, the consortium websiste will be updated with information on implementation of the concentration and implications for the fields of education and childhood intervention. |
