He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Ph.D. programme on Mechanical Eng. and of the Scientific Committee of the M.Sc. Course on Mechanical Eng.

 

He is Head of the New Energy Technologies Research Unit, which exists within the Institute of Mechanical Engineering - FEUP. He has coordinated and participated in 13 European research and development projects related to the development of new and sustainable energy systems, especially solar thermal systems (heating, cooling and CHP systems), with a total budget exceeding 3 million euros.

He is Secretary-General of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies. He is co-responsible for the conference series on Sustainable Energy Technologies, with several editions held in Europe, Asia and America.

He is Executive Editor of the International Journal of Low Carbon Technologies (Oxford University Press, UK) and a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Ambient Energy (Ambient Press Ltd, UK). He is a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Peer Review College (UK).
