The Bridges of Porto - a slide show

By the Atlantic Ocean, the two towns, Porto (Portus) and Vila Nova de Gaia (Cale) are only separated by the Douro River.

The names of the two cities linked one to the other to give the name of our country:

Portus+Cale … Portucale … Portugal

And for the last two centuries they are linked with remarkable bridges…

Porto is the main town of the north of Portugal.

Its origins are in the pre-historic era but it was in the Middle Age that the town increased its importance.
