The Bridges of Porto - a slide show

This was a carefully built bridge that could move up or down with the tides and upstream or downstream with the current, some of the boats could be removed to allow the intense traffic of the river and the entire bridge could be dismounted when a great flood was expected.

This bridge was designed by a great architect, Carlos Amarante, that got inspiration in a similar bridge that by that time was in service in Rouen, France.
