In the same decade three proposals were made with the same structural type. Two were constructed. The third is only a design basis.
Another interesting structural exercise is to compare the design solution of the transmission of the loads of the upper deck to the arch in three cases:

The solution of Almeida dEça is incorrect because of the bending introduced in a member of the arch.
Seyrig's solution is visually better but a very slender column, in safe conditions to the design loads, has now the risk of buckling.
The better disposition is that of Eiffel (or Seyrig too?) by introducing
a smaller module in the arch and a pier similar to all the other
piers of the bridge.
