Short Biography

LinkedIn profile   external link

Isabel Lopes Margarido is a Ph.D student full time researcher, since September 2009, in the Doctoral Program of Informatics Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). After 8 years of experience in the software systems development industry, Isabel evolved her research work to the measurement of CMMI® practices, focusing on high maturity levels and quantitative management.

Isabel graduated as Engineer in 2005 in Electronics and Computers Engineering in FEUP. She began her career as Quality Assurance Manager in 2001, first in Milénio 3 and later in Actua Software, where among other responsibilities she developed the Software Quality Manual. From January 2007 to September 2009, Isabel worked as Project Manager, Team Leader, Trainer, Quality Assurance and Test Manager in Critical Software, S.A., the first Portuguese organisation certified with the CMMI® maturity level 5. During that time Isabel was member of the CMMI® appraisal team, did research using TSP/PSP data and Six Sigma, managed a project to define the Product Integration process and supported other task force teams (in particular the projects for Causal Analysis and Resolution, Technical Solution. and Decision Analysis and Resolution). Isabel was also owner of the Maintenance Projects and Software Testing processes.

EQualPI: a Framework to Evaluate the Quality of the Implementation of the CMMI Practices external link

Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Portugal - December 2016

Summary

In my PhD I defined a framework to evaluate the quality of implementation of process improvements, named EQualPI. The purpose was to define a Framework to evaluate the quality of implementation of a process but also to anticipate the quality of the outputs of the process and change the course of action to achieve satisfying results. Hence, this thesis shifts the evaluation of processes from only checking that the practices are followed (compliance) or checking the measurable outputs of a process. We defined quality of implementation based on the process performance, ensuring that the goals of executing a process are met in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Being a subject highly tied to measurement, the quantitative management of projects and processes is analysed and we provide guidance to implement measurement programmes. EQualPI is demonstrated using a particular model, CMMI, and includes a process performance model to evaluate the practice of effort estimation when planning the development of software (using TSP projects data). The scope of demonstration is narrowed to a particular process, nonetheless, EQualPI is applicable to any standard or process that an organisation uses to do work and produce outcomes.
