Doctoral Program in Applied Mathematics

Admissions Requirements

May apply to the cycle of studies leading to the doctor's degree:

  1. Holders of a master's degree, or legal equivalent, in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Economics or related areas;
  2. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, that is recognized as attesting to the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the legal scientific and statutorily competent body of the university where he/she wishes to be admitted.
  3. With English proficiency.

 

Required documents

  1. Certificates of qualifications indicating the degrees held by the applicant and the final grade of the academic degree;
  2. Certificate of disciplines of the study programme completed by the applicant as well as the grades awarded and the respective credits;
  3. Curriculum Vitae;
  4. One motivation letter stating the scientific objectives of the candidate for joining the MAP-PDMA programme;
  5. Two recommendation letters by recognized professors or researchers in the area of Mathematics, sent directly by them by email to pd.matp.diretor@fc.up.pt, with the subject PDMA_NameSurnameCandidate.

 

Selection and Ranking Criteria

  1. Curriculum Vitae, including the classifications in previous degrees (60%)
  2. Two reference letters (20%)
  3. Motivation letter (20%)

Candidates' tiebreaker criteria:

  • For applicants with equal ranking, the youngest candidate will be ranked first among them.
