Doctoral Program in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

The PDEMM is a doctoral program that promotes excellence in research and innovation to guarantee high-quality training in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

The course is planned to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills considered relevant and current, characterized by the functions for which it qualifies students, namely:

- Research in specific areas of Engineering and Materials Science, including multi and interdisciplinary aspects;

- Original and independent research activity, with works published and validated by the scientific community in the area;

- Systematization of approaches in research processes, their practical application, and their evaluation.


Objectives

 The goals of the PDEMM are completely aligned with FEUP’s mission, by training engineers that are able to follow professional careers, at a national or international level, with a comprehensive training and an integrated, holistic and multidisciplinary vision to solve materails engineering problems, and incorporate the solutions in a sustainable industrial and social development.

To meet this strategy, PDEMM:

- promotes the excellence, in terms of qualification, of its graduates, preparing them for a sustainableemployability;

- promotes the development of several important technical and personal skills recognised by the business world;

- maintains connections with companies and national R&D institutes regarding several aspects, namely through the cooperation of its teachers and projects developed in partnership;

- Promotes PhDs in an industrial environment.

Can apply to the PDEMM:

a) Holders of a Master’s degree or its legally binding equivalent;

b) Holders of a 1st degree possessing a especially relevant academic or scientific curriculum recognised by the Scientific Committee as attesting to the applicant’s ability to carry out this study programme;

c) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, recognised by the Scientific Committee as attesting to the applicant’s ability to carry out this study programme.
