InformationCourse/CS accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).

Accreditation of Programme

The programme is accredited by the national Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).

The Degree in Chemical Engineering (L.EQ) at FEUP aims to prepare students for a career in the area of Chemical Engineering aiming at practical activities in various industrial and professional environments, or to provide them with the skills to enter a 2nd cycle in Chemical Engineering or related areas. Chemical Engineering graduates from FEUP will be prepared for rapidly changing technological environments, with central knowledge in the area of Chemical Engineering, but also for multidisciplinary and personal development throughout their professional careers.

The formation profile is that of Chemical Engineering, based on physical sciences (Chemistry and Physics) and life sciences (Biology), together with knowledge of Mathematics and soft skills.

The general (practical) culture of engineering is emphasized through a pedagogical perspective in constant renewal. The student’s path during the graduation begins with training in courses in the area of basic sciences, and evolves to more specific topics, in the areas of engineering sciences and chemical engineering.

This programme is mainly assured by the Department of Chemical Engineering and provides new skills and working methods in total harmony with the evolution of teaching and learning that can be observed today in the best European schools.

The teaching methodologies also evolve, initially from more theoretical training to more applied and practical, with greater autonomy for students in the last years. The typology and teaching methodologies of each course unit are in line with this evolution, adapting to the required level of learning.

Professional Abilities

From the training perspective, the Degree in Chemical Engineering promotes the development or acquisition of the following skills:
  1. Understand the principles of physics, chemistry and biology and their application in the analysis of processes;
  2. Understand the nature and size of the manufacturing industries with close ties to Chemical Engineering;
  3. Acquire the necessary knowledge in areas of basic and nuclear sciences of the programme that allow the resolution of fundamental problems in Chemical Engineering;
  4. Be aware of the available methods for implementation and operation of systems in industrial and social contexts, with all the inherent implications;
  5. Be able to communicate effectively with specialized and non-specialized audiences, using the most appropriate tools.

Employment Prospects

The professional opportunities for Chemical Engineering graduates from FEUP include a wide range of opportunities in industrial activities or services, in both the private and public sectors. In addition, they have the skills to enter a 2nd cycle in Chemical Engineering or related areas.
