Territory's Representations, its Drawing and Images

Course Unit Record:
Here

Target Audience:

The course "Territory's Representations, its Drawing and Images" is open to all and is inclusive. It is a multidisciplinary course taught by Vasco Cardoso from the Department of Drawing at FBAUP, Mário Gonçalves Fernandes from the Department of Geography at FLUP, and Carlos Rodrigues from the Department of Civil Engineering at FEUP.

Adapting to the profile of its students, the cultural matrix of the course and its foundation in the humanities will ensure this purpose. Thus, the course "Territory's Representations, its Drawing and Images" is open to all students in the 2nd Cycle but also to professionals who recognize its potential to contribute to the enhancement or strengthening of their knowledge.

Specific Admission Requirements for the Training Unit:

- Capability to enroll in the 2nd cycle of higher education or minimum conditions for admission to the 4th year of an integrated master's program;

- Possession of a professional background that reflects being a future beneficiary of the knowledge promoted by the course. UP students will fill the available slots, and any remaining slots will be open to the general public.

Either of the two profiles described above should explicitly state their relevance in a letter of motivation.

Objectives

- To identify and valorise the common ground among the three knowledge areas involved, from a culturalist perspective predominantly mediated through Drawing.
- To acquire an understanding of the morphology of diverse territories through various representations and Drawing practices, emphasizing the relationship between the body, form, and space, drawing inspiration from Alberto Carneiro.
- To reflect on the body's position in the territory, both in the records to be produced and in interpreted representations, considering the perceptual contexts inherent in these representations.
- Fruitfully to articulate the relationship between different types of graphic records, both as a method and as a learning process in itself.

Tasks:
- Develop a project for the graphic representation and expression of a territory, a project that can comprehensively address scientific, artistic, and technological areas from a culturalist perspective, showcasing Drawing as the interdisciplinary field fostering these connections.
- Include, within the project to be developed, contributions from invited speakers addressing territory representations from their own professional perspectives. Through the execution of these two tasks, students will achieve the course objectives.
