With a Bachelor’s degree in History – University of Porto, Faculty of Arts (FLUP), 1985 - Maria Manuela Pinto is specialized in Documental Sciences - University of Coimbra, Faculty of Arts (FLUC), 1998 -, having made the Provas de Aptidão Pedagógica e Capacidade Científica (equivalent to Master) in Information Science in 2008 (FLUP).
PhD in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms (University of Porto and University of Aveiro) with a thesis entitled Information Management in Public Portuguese Universities : Rethinking and proposal of a model”.
Associate professor at FLUP, teachs in the: Bachelor of Arts in Information Science, Master in Information Science, both a partnership between FLUP and FEUP (Faculty of Engineering), Bachelor in Communication Sciences and Master in Museology.
Manuela structured the Unit of University Extension and Community Services (UNAPS - FLUP) and asumed its coordination between March 2010 and January 2014.
Was superior staff member of private companies (1985-1996), having developed her activity in the area of Informatics and Information Systems. After that, she exercised functions at the City Hall of Vila do Conde (1998-2004), as an archivist/information manager, collaborating, also, as a teacher in the Specialization Course of Documental Sciences at University of Coimbra - Faculty of Arts (2000-2005).
Manuela Pinto is integrated member of CIC.Digital - Center for research in Communication, Information and Digital Cultures (2016- ), which succeeds CETAC.MEDIA (2005-2016), and of CITE / INESC TEC (Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (2016- ).
She develops research in the area of information management and information services management, preservation of information and informational behavior. The most recent projects were related with information management and preservation, with a special focus in the digital field, information literacy, digital inclusion and info-communicational processes by TIC.
As a result of her interest for management and innovation, she is still involved in transversal extracurricular activities related with entrepreneurship directed to university students, being a coordinating member of the Start UP Programme at UP (JA-YE/Millennium BCP partnership), voluntary staff member of V.IVE! (Living the Innovation and Entrepreneurship at U. Porto) and member of the board of CEdUP (Entrepreneurship Club of the University of Porto).
