Apresentação Pessoal

Abílio Manuel Pinho de Jesus, born in 1973 in Oliveira de Azeméis, Portugal, is a Full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering from the University of Porto (FEUP), having an academic career of about 28 years. He is also a research member at the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (INEGI) and an integrated member of the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (LAETA). He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from FEUP in 1996 and got a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from FEUP in 1999. He got a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at UTAD in 2004, while he was a professor at UTAD, and Habilitation in Mechanical Engineering from FEUP in 2023. He is (co)author of more than 230 papers published in national and international scientific journals, more than 350 scientific works presented in national and international conferences, and more than 85 papers published in indexed proceedings. A total of more than 340 documents in SCOPUS and an H-index of 45 (>6480 citations) acknowledge the high-track record of the signatory in the fields of fatigue and fracture of materials and structures and manufacturing. The manufacturing processes, particularly subtractive and additive processes, have been elected as a research priority in the last eight years, and a research group in the field is being consolidated. Process simulation, material characterisation, hybrid manufacturing (additive and subtractive) and their relation with fatigue and fracture behaviours are targeted besides other research topics related to the integrity of materials and structures of different applications. The edition of the Structural Integrity Book series (Indexed in SCOPUS), the Edition of two journals as editor-in-chief (JMBM, DeGruyter, ICE-Transport), and the coordination of /participation in  European Projects, ULCF, FASTCOLD, IN2TRACK2, IN2TRACK3 and national projects as MAMTOOL, ADD.STRENGTH, FIBREBRIDGE, and GCYCLEFAT, among others, recognise the research excellency being performed. Currently, he is director of the Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering at FEUP, Deputy Director of the Master in Mechanical Engineering, co-chair of the TL on Advanced Production of LAETA and co-chair of the Technical Division on Technologies for Materials Processing of the Portuguese Materials Society. He is currently the coordinator of a Recovery and Resilience Project with a budget of 4.0M¤ to FEUP on railways.
