Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment Division

Acronym: SHRHA Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment Division - Opens a new window
Head: Paulo Rosa Santos
Mission: The Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment Division is responsible for the pedagogical coordination in the area of Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment, of the Integrated Master in Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
Description: In this sense, this Division ensures the teaching service of the following compulsory subjects: General Hydraulics I (2nd year), General Hydraulics II and Hydrology and Water Resources (3rd year), Environmental and Urban Hydraulics (4th year). During the 5th year, this Division also ensures the teaching service of the following subjects: Project in Hydraulics, Research in Hydraulics, Maritime Works (I and II), Fluvial Works and Hydroplants (I and II), Water Supply Systems and Urban Drainage Systems. With these compulsory subjects, we are looking for confer knowledgments in the following areas:
  • Conception, project, execution and observation of several port and maritime structures.
  • Phenomenons of interaction agitation / solide frontiers and coastal structures. Presentation of laboratorial modelling technics. Initiation to the planning of the port premises and of the coastal defense systems.
  • Physical aspects, interfaces and interactions in maritime and coastal zones through the maritime aerodynamics and the coastal hydramorphology.
  • Sensitization for the specific problems and interventions of the coastal zones as interface systems very dynamics, open and strongly polarizers of occupations, uses and transformations. Initiation to the conception, project, execution and observation of the coastal defense structures.
  • Hydraulics gains, namely as: conception, hydraulic and structural dimensioning, environmental incidences to the work establishment and to the project connexion.
  • Project and management of water supply systems.
  • General aspects and concepts of fluvial and environmental engineering to consider at conception, project, execution and control of a little or medium hydraulic gain.
  • Methodologíes and tools for the qualitative evaluation of the water caudal in a basin of drainage and prevision of its quality for the control strategie of the pollution and improvement of the hydric resources.
  • Conception, construction and exploitation in the domain of drainage systems and residual water treatment.
  • Conception and project of hydraulics undertakings: studies, projects, construction and control, as well as the making of the drawed and written pieces.

This Division is also responsible, through its researvh center, whose coordinator is Professor Veloso Gomes, Cathedratic Teacher of FEUP, for the scientific and applied research in the following areas:

  • Maritime and coastal studies;
  • Hydric resources and fluvial hydraulic.

The Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment Division also cooperates with the Integrated Master in Environmental Engineering in the following subjects:

  • Introduction to the Environmental Engineering (1st year);
  • Informatics Laboratory (1st year);
  • Environmental Sciences Laboratories I (1st year);
  • Project FEUP (1st year);
