With the DESIGNSTUDIOFEUP foundation, the Engineering School sets off the possibility to, in an integrated environment, both students and professors may develop multidisciplinary projects, by offering them, besides software and hardware equipment, an interface able to assist students accessing FEUP´s facilities, such as investigation institutes, laboratories or workshops.

It is aimed, therefore, to promote experimentation, allowing testing solutions, the development of prototypes and the presentation of results, not disregarding the total independence of the engaged units and what´s established by the different guardianships involved.

The DESIGNSTUDIOFEUP will also offer technical support, concerning Industrial Design, to projects that require product development, thoroughgoing the scientific skills, so far existent in Engineering and Management fields. 

The PBL (Project or Product Based Learning) is an added value that FEUP´s students may have at their disposal within this new facility, studying real world problems in team work, sharing and discussing knowledge and know-how, as well as discovering new needs and supporting, with innovative solutions, not only the national industry, but the whole society as a whole too.

It will be decisively important, within this new kind of approach, the entrepreneurship skills, responsibility and self-management, all of these professional success ´central features.

The motivation that is expected to be created in the assigned project teams should not only allow a continual development in projecting, but an important development in the ability to research as well, leading to a better performance of DESIGNSTUDIOFEUP  itself.

The DESIGNSTUDIOFEUP should be associated with a brand, easily recognizable and linked to the FEUP`s special way of learning, which will certainly lead to a greater connection with the business world and the society, benefiting all involved students.
