Patronage

In order to foster closer links between the scientific and business communities, companies may promote research by giving tax-deductible donations and contributions. Thus, by choosing to invest in the knowledge society, they can become patrons of science.

At FEUP patronage can assume the following forms:

• Patron of a research project - supporting the development of a specific scientific research project.
• Patron of scientific equipment- supporting the purchase of scientific equipment or facilities as well as the maintenance of facilities destined for scientific research.
• Patron of Human Resources - Assigning researchers or specialists for the development of a research programme or demonstration.
• Patron of scientific dissemination - supporting scientific dissemination activities, including large-scale scientific events such as fairs, exhibitions or seminars.
• Patron of innovation or industrial application- supporting the demonstration of research results and technological development in an industrial environment.

Social Responsibility

Social responsibility plays an increasingly important role within organizations which aim to contribute towards a fairer society. FEUP also shares this concern and companies can join in through “Project FEUP Social”.

Project FEUP Social

This project, which arises from a partnership between FEUP and GASPorto – a nongovernmental organization, targets students in financial difficulty, such as those from Timor and PALOP countries, and aims to facilitate their social inclusion by helping them to overcome problems that can result in academic failure and lead to them dropping out. Companies can offer summer internships to these students in exchange for a scholarship that covers their academic fees. Such internships can cover a wide range of tasks and are not necessarily related to the engineering field.
