Faculty Board

The Faculty Board began its term of office on 8 February 2006 and is one of the Faculty's central Management Bodies. It comprises:
  • The Dean of the Faculty, who presides;
  • Three members drawn from the group of teaching and research staff;
  • Four members drawn from the group of students;
  • Two members drawn from the group of non-teaching staff.
The Faculty Board develops its activities through:
  • Plenary meetings;
  • An Executive Committee comprised of the members of the teaching and research staff who are members of the Faculty Board.
The Plenary has the following duties and powers:
  • To administer and manage the School, ensuring its proper functioning, and dealing with all issues not within the purview of other bodies;
  • To approve the formation or termination of Departments and Research Centres and to approve the corresponding regulations, acting on the Academic Board’s favourable opinion;
  • To propose the creation, suspension and termination of programmes to the competent UP bodies, and to approve the corresponding regulations, acting on the Academic Board’s favourable opinion;
  • To propose changes to the members of staff to the competent UP bodies;
  • To approve, acting on the opinion of the Academic Board, the rules for the establishment of contracts for research, development or the rendering of services that involve FEUP's human or material resources and are not included under specific agreements or conventions;
  • To draw up the Report of Activities and Accounts for that year, the Plan of Activities and the draft Budget Plan for the following year, and FEUP's Strategic Plan;
  • To approve, acting on the Academic Board’s opinion, the participation of the School in any public or private organizations, profit-making or non-profit-making;
  • To appoint, acting on the Academic Board’s opinion, the representatives of the School on management bodies of all the public and private organizations FEUP is involved with, in any capacity;
  • To set the date for the election of the Assembly of Representatives, the Academic Board and the Teaching Standards Committee, and to verify if the lists of candidates presented are in order;
  • To approve FEUP's organic regulations;
  • To approve regulations for the proper functioning of the Faculty Board.
