Dean (2006/2010)

The Dean of Faculty has the following duties and powers:

• To represent the School in all situations, whether in or out of court;
• To ensure connections between the School, the University, the Rectory and the relevant government department, for the discussion of issues important to the School, the University and Higher Education;
• To choose the members of the Faculty Board, submitting them for the approval of the Assembly of Representatives;
• To conduct Faculty Board meetings, having the casting vote, and being responsible for the permanent exercise of its duties, as well as for dealing with routine matters, and making decisions concerning all issues delegated to him/her;
• To preside over the Academic Board and over the Teaching Standards Committee;
• To install Directors of Departments, Research Centres, programmes and persons in charge of FEUP services;
• To exercise the duties he/she has been conferred by law and by higher authorities;
• To inform the Faculty Board of all the decisions made.

Currently, FEUP's Dean of Faculty is Professor Carlos Albino Veiga da Costa, having taken office on 2 May 2001.
