The Bridges of Porto - a slide show

The arch technology is abandoned in this new railway bridge built to replace Maria Pia Bridge. Professor Edgar Cardoso is again the designer.

The bridge in itself is spectacular but it was again during the construction that one could get the most amazing views.

More Notes

The bridge is a frame with three spans of 125, 250 and 125 m and the beam has a double cell cross section with parabolic eight.

Just before the closure of the beam at mid span, two enormous TT seem to defy equilibrium laws!

The beam has an extremely high level of prestressing, in the longitudinal, transversal and even in vertical directions.
