The student must be acquainted with basic notions on trigonometry, real functions, plane analytic geometry, systems of linear equations and logic operations.

Mathematical Analysis I

This course unit is based on the understanding and application of a compact and synthetic operational language which is necessary to the (mathematical) development of fundamental concepts and themes during this Integrated Masters. It also acts as a link between the secondary and university education.
The themes taught in this course unit are considered a tool/language of reasoning organization, and consequently a basic support to the quantitative formulation of problems, which is a typical engineering exercise.
The aims of this course unit are:

Introduction of the concept of standardization in general and its importance in Engineering. Acquisition of solid knowledge about object representation, in terms of their geometry and nominal dimensions. Development of spatial visualization and technical communication skills, through the reading of drawings in orthographic representation. Development of technical communication skills, through the execution of drawings in isometric representation. Introduction to the concepts of Geometric Product Specification (GPS), through the exploration of the concepts of tolerance and interchangeability and a developed study of dimensional tolerance. Introduction to Mining Engineering and Geo-Environment

Integrate students within the scope of Mining and Geo-Environment Engineering. Decarbonizing the Buildings Sector to reach global Energy Sustainability

This course shall address the existing and the needed policies that will allow a successful reaching the goal of a fully decarbonised Buildings Sector in Portugal by 2050. The course will adress the technical problems and challenges, both economic and social, to make participants fully aware of all the general context, as well as the possible paths for a solution, including a discussion about the advanatges and disadvantages of each solution.
The focus will rest on the renovation of existing buildings, the major challenge to reach the full decarbonization of the Buildings sector by 2050.
Finally, participants shall be motivated to think about and discuss their own ideas about the best paths for sustainable solutions, including technical, financial and social instruments, as well as improved public policies that will need to be implemented within a relatively short period of time. Participants shall be encouraged to become important actors in this great challenge, by developing new construction paradigms that will need to be in place within the next 2-3 decades.

Introduction to programming languages is relevant in any engineering, technology and exact sciences course. By acquiring basic programming skills applied to robotics, students will increase their potential to develop applications that involve hardware and software/firmware; being so that this training in TC is transversal to several study areas.
It is also an objective of this course to promote the development of soft skills. Thus, it will be through group work to be developed on the subject matter taught and for the application of learning that students will have the opportunity to develop soft-skills such as the ability to work in a team and develop various roles and cooperation among team members.
The assessment will allow students to develop soft-skills in the areas of scientific report writing and communication/oral presentations with the defence of ideas and argumentation.

These competencies are based on the ability to recognize the key problem in a non-structured situation, on the ability to develop a framework for analysing and treating the problem and on the application of analytical methods for its resolution.

The large majority of these constructions is concentrated in the more densely populated areas, i.e. near the sea coast, on river banks or close to the river mouth, so in geologically recent areas where the Earth's surface is typically covered by weak soils, sometimes with large thickness.
