Jorge Lino Alves, PhD in Materials Science (1997) Lehigh University, USA, ceramic materials, equivalence to Mechanical Engineering (1998, U.Porto), Mechanical Engineer, Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department.
FEUP Director of the Master in Product and Industrial Design (UPorto), Director of DESIGNSTUDIO FEUP, Director of the Product and Services Development Laboratory (LDPS), Member of the Board of the DEMec Department, Scientific Committee of the Master in Innovation and Technological Entrepreneurship (MIETE), member of the Coordinating Council of CEMUP (since 2003), member of the Portuguese Society of Materials (SPM) Board (since 2023).

Past-President of SPM (2019-23) and Vice-President (2017-19). Vice President of INEGI (2002-10). Director of the Master's Course in Industrial Design at FEUP (2008-14). Member of the College of Mechanical Engineering of the North Region Ordem dos Engenheiros (2007-10).

Teaches several Curricular Units of Materials and Technological Processes in the Bachelor and Master in Mechanical Engineering, Master in Product and Industrial Design and Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering.

Develops research in the area of product development, additive manufacturing, conversion processes and rapid tooling, foundry, ceramic materials, mechanical behavior and relationship with the microstructure.

Co-authored 3 books on Additive Manufacturing (2001, 2023), two on Mechanical Construction Materials (2013 and 2017), one on Advanced Materials (2007) and two chapters on ceramic materials in the book Technical Ceramics: Fabrication, Properties and Applications (2023). Published two 3D Printing chapters in the book “Polymers for 3D Printing-Methods, Properties, and Characteristics” (2022).

Reviewer for several scientific journals; Rapid Prototyping J., J. Am. Ceram. Soc., J. Process. Mech. Eng., J. Mats. Eng. Innovation, J. Mats. Design & Appl., etc. He belongs to several Scientific Commissions and has coordinated Symposiums at several Conferences.

Director of the Science and Technology of Materials Magazine at SPM (since 2019). Member of the Technical-Scientific Council of Revista Tecnometal, a magazine of technical-scientific information on metallurgy and metalworking of the Association of Metallurgical, Metalworking and Related Industries of Portugal (since 2018).

Coordinator of the Technical Division of Structural Materials at SPM (since 2017).

Member of the Project Evaluation Committee of the Portuguese Innovation Agency (ANI), and belongs to the external evaluation committee of A3Es.
