FEUP's origins date back to the Nautical School (Aula Náutica - 1765), passing through the Debating and Drawing Classroom (1779), the Royal Academy of Academia and Commerce (1803), and the Polytechnic Academy of Porto (1885). As heir to the institutions that preceded it and produced a heritage (tangible and intangible) that bears witness to the evolution of teaching and research in the areas of engineering and technology at the University of Porto, it is FEUP's responsibility through the FEUPmuseum to preserve, study and publicize this legacy.
